The PVC window
2008-08-28
Now we look at the PVC. The poly vinyl chloride (PVC) - is one of the earliest manmade materials. For the first time it was created by chemist Reginald in 1835. Since 1912 began the searches for the possibilities of industrial production PVC, and in 1931 concern BASF released the first tons of this material.
In the beginning of the 50th it is annual it began first in THE USA, and then in Europe victorious procession PVC as the material for the window frames. One of the first German patents for the window frames from PVC is dated 1952. The first frames from the poly vinyl chloride were the metal base, coated by soft or semi soft
PVC. The release of profiles from the solid polyvinyl chloride was partially strengthened by wooden or insert of metals, somewhat more lately began.
In 1959 the first apartments with the windows from the solid, modified to the impact toughness polyvinyl chloride were equipped. After this, it passed still several years, until frames from PVC of profiles begin to find mass use.
Systematic work, both above the raw material and above the machines (extruders) they accompanied the rapid development of windows from PVC of profiles. Reaching as the minimum for the same time period of the service, such as was known in wooden windows, and on the possibility, its exceeding was the most important purpose of the work. Together with the mechanical qualities in the center of attention there were the ecology, the weather resistance, heat- and soundproofing, ease in the withdrawal, and the possibility of preparing the windows of all conceivable forms The Production of profiles without any problems and the guarantee of their high operating characteristics was achieved with the aid of the stabilizers and the oxide of titanium (together with other additives). Windows from PVC of profile conquered durable place on the markets of Europe. Qualitative, ripe product appeared from the idea.
In fact, PVC Windows have many, many different benefits and advantages over other window materials. Some of the main benefits and advantages are listed below: Low Maintenance - The pristine appearance of plastics windows and doorsteps is maintained by an occasional cleaning with mild detergent such as soapy
water. Some items of window hardware (e.g. hinges and handles) may need occasional lubrication in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
No Painting - Unlike timber frames, finished plastics frames never need repainting or re-staining. PVC-U windows can be made in many different colors. Color Fast - Plastics frame materials are subjected to rigorous tests to ensure that the appearance of the frames will not deteriorate with time.
No Rotting, Rusting or Corroding - Timber and metal frames are normally subject to rotting, rusting and corroding. This cannot happen to plastics frames. No Warping or Twisting - Unlike timber, plastics frames do not warp, twist or split.
Tough and Durable - Plastics profiles have special additives to make the material both tough and durable, and ideally suited to UK requirements.
Resists Combustion - Plastics frames will only burn when subjected to an intense fire source. The material is classified as self-extinguishing.
Insulation - Plastics frames have inherently high thermal and acoustic performance. This can be further enhanced by the use of gas filled Double Glazed Units and/or different types of glass.
Cost Competitive - Plastics windows are long lasting and virtually maintenance free and therefore are the most cost-effective option.
High Performance - When properly manufactured plastics windows will comply with the requirements of BS 6375-1 and -2 and all other relevant British Standards. When installed in accordance with the BPF "Code of Practice for the Survey and Installation of Replacement Plastics Windows and Doorsteps" W362, they will give high performance in service.
Design Capabilities - It is possible to produce most styles of window, including tilt & turn, vertical sliding sash, pivot, fully reversible and traditional casement windows in a variety of finishes.
The Environment - The plastics frame materials are recyclable into alternative applications and are also energy efficient in production. And unlike timber, there is no adverse effect on the world’s rain forests. Click here to go to the environment section.
So we can see PVC window is really green windows. In today’s market, the most popular PVC window is the PVCu window—a very particular window. This is an excellent; highly insulate material, which benefits from little or no external maintenance. It is readily available and well tested and is usually the lowest cost option of all three materials. It is mainly seen in white but also available in Mahogany and Oak wood grain styles. PVCu is by far the most popular material for windows and doors today.
There are many well-proven PVCu extrusions available. Problems with discoloration are virtually unheard of and most suppliers will warrant against this. The design of the windows varies from company to company. Here are a few of the main points. You may like to raise them with your supplier. Now we have a look at it.

The PVCu window is not prefect. For some, however, PVCu lacks authenticity when it comes to the more traditional designs. It is not acceptable to planners for use on listed buildings and not popular with planners in conservation areas. But PVCu windows have received top marks for environmental performance in a key international sustainable building rating system. Compared to the uPVC window, you should know something about it.
Now uPVC windows have a number of qualities that are being increasingly recognized. The frames are low maintenance as they are tough and durable, do not rot, and do not require painting overtime. The frames are also non-conductive, meaning they do not transfer heat and therefore will not influence the internal temperature of a building. The combination of uPVC frames and double glazing means maximum energy efficiency is produced. It is often alleged that uPVC windows are non-recyclable. However, from a technical point of view, it is actually quite easy to recycle them. The European PVC industry signed a voluntary commitment to increase the levels of recycling of post-consumer PVC products in 2000. This contains a target for windows: rather than just recycle them into short-life products, such as traffic cones, the industry is focusing on using "closed-loop" recycling. This will allow PVC material from old windows to be used for the manufacture of similar long-life buildings products. It is a very sustainable solution and the more time we spend on research and development now, the greater the dividends we will reap in the future.
I'm sure most people would agree that the earliest uPVC windows were not as satisfactory as they could have been. However, the industry has developed considerably since then and the design and versatility of windows are now a priority. For example, it is now common for householders and developers to fit vertically sliding uPVC (sash) windows which, from a short distance, are indistinguishable from their timber equivalents. We come back to the PVC window. PVC windows come in a variety of different styles and are available with a choice of additional features and color finishes. As the society’s development, there are many new wonderful products in the market. Let us have a look at them.

The regrind derived from recycling PVC window profiles represents a valuable raw material in new window production. However, contamination issues are raised by, among other things, rubber from seals, polyamide and plasticized PVC. Rubber seals are normally separated manually prior to shredding but this laborious process means low throughput rates.
By contrast, the separation process adopted by Hamos of Penzberg, Germany, is entirely automatic and entails no manual pre-sorting. PVC window profiles are firstly shredded into regrind, from which the dust is removed. Rubber and other contaminants are then taken out using EKS-type electrostatic separation equipment; this operates on the principle that rigid PVC has a different electrostatic charge compared to rubber and other substances.
After seeing over these products, I have some tips to tell you. One of the most important decisions you will have to make when selecting windows for your home is which type of window you wish to purchase. There are primarily two main types of window available. These are sash windows and casement windows. Casement windows are without doubt more popular when it comes to PVC windows and are ordinarily hinged on the side and open inwards or outwards. Sash windows are more traditional and have an up and down slide mechanism that allows you to lock the window at the top.
I think High quality PVC windows that are correctly fitted can not only add value to your home but additionally make it more aesthetically pleasing, but like any other major home improvement project choosing the right company to complete the work can be daunting. It is therefore important that you employ an experienced company that can provide you with the right advice and direction and leave you with a product that you are satisfied with. Above all, creation became the most important prerequisite for today's product already in the early stages of the system of quality control. World is always developing, the choose of us is changing.
